Whitney Salie grew up in North Carolina.  After studying Communication Arts and Design at Virginia Commonwealth University, she moved to Georgia and became an instructor of Illustration and Graphic Design at the Art Institute of Atlanta.  In 1995 while raising her family, she designed the Art program for an Elementary school system in Georgia where she taught for the next several years.  Currently she is the Art Instructor at Athens Christian School where she has taught grades 1-8 for over 10 years.

Whitney has always maintained a freelance portfolio.  Her commissioned works range from the whimsical to realistic.  Her varied styles have developed over time through variety of application and client need.  Because of her love of color and teaching young artists, paint is her medium of choice.  The intimacy she derives from portrait painting makes it the subject of choice.
